Donationware licence

Free to use, closed source, donations of any amount – including none – welcome. The full agreement is below; the English text is binding.

This agreement ("Agreement") is between you and AluPro sp. z o.o., ul. Jana Pawła II 42, 05-250 Słupno, Poland, KRS 0001043068, NIP (tax ID) 5242763945, REGON 146914920 ("we", "us"), the owner of VetteALDL. It covers the VetteALDL software: the Windows application, the VetteFTDI driver, the vehicle definitions and knowledge base, the help, the installer and every update we publish ("Software"). By installing, copying or using the Software you accept this Agreement. If you do not accept it, do not install or use the Software.

1. Donationware

VetteALDL is donationware. You may download and use the Software without paying anything. If it is useful to you, you may make a voluntary donation of any amount you choose – including nothing ($0). Whether and how much you donate does not change your rights: every user receives the same licence, the same functions and the same updates (section 7).

2. What you may do

We grant you a free, non-exclusive, non-transferable, worldwide licence to:

  1. install and use the Software on any number of computers you own or control;
  2. use it for any lawful purpose, privately or in your work – including diagnosing and servicing vehicles for others;
  3. make backup copies of the installer for your own use;
  4. share, publish and discuss what the Software shows you – screenshots, videos, reviews, recordings and support bundles of your own sessions;
  5. tell others about the Software and link to vettealdl.com.

3. What you may not do

Unless we agree otherwise in writing, you may not:

  1. sell, rent, lease, lend or sublicense the Software, or charge anyone for it or for access to it;
  2. distribute the installer or the installed files, publish them for download anywhere other than vettealdl.com, or bundle them with other products – please link to vettealdl.com instead, so everyone gets the current, unmodified version;
  3. modify, adapt, translate or create derivative works of the Software, its definitions or its knowledge base;
  4. decompile, disassemble or otherwise reverse engineer the Software, except to the extent that applicable law expressly permits it despite this restriction (for example for interoperability under Articles 5 and 6 of Directive 2009/24/EC and Article 75 of the Polish Act on Copyright and Related Rights) and except as allowed for third-party components in section 6;
  5. remove or change copyright, licence or trademark notices;
  6. use the Software, or information obtained by examining it, to build a competing product;
  7. use the Software in a way that breaks the law or endangers people or property.

4. Ownership

The Software is licensed, not sold. We and our licensors keep all rights, title and interest in it, including copyright in the code, the vehicle definitions, the knowledge base, the texts and the design. "VetteALDL" and its logo are our marks. All rights not expressly granted in this Agreement are reserved.

5. Vehicle safety

The Software reads data from vehicle control modules and can also send commands to them – output tests (fans, relays, lamps, solenoids, idle speed and others), clearing of trouble codes and resets.

  1. Run output tests and other commands only with the vehicle parked on level ground, the parking brake applied, the transmission in P or N, the wheels chocked where appropriate, in a ventilated place and away from moving parts.
  2. Never operate the Software while driving. Reading data on the road is only for a passenger; the driver must never be distracted by it.
  3. You are responsible for the vehicle and its condition, for connecting the cable to the correct pins and for every command you send.
  4. The Software is a diagnostic aid. It does not replace a qualified technician or the manufacturer's service information, and its explanations, normal ranges and diagnostic paths may be incomplete or not apply to a particular vehicle.
  5. Air bag (SIR): never probe, unplug or work on air bag components without following the manufacturer's service procedure. The system can deploy even with the battery disconnected, because its module keeps a reserve charge for a while.
  6. The cable description is provided for information. Building, modifying and connecting a cable is at your own risk.

6. Third-party components

The Software contains components of other authors, listed with their licences in the file THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.txt installed with it (for example Python, Qt for Python / PySide6 under the GNU LGPL v3, libusb under the GNU LGPL v2.1, and Zadig under the GNU GPL v3). Each is governed by its own licence, and nothing in this Agreement limits the rights those licences give you. In particular, for libraries under the GNU LGPL you may replace the library with a modified version and reverse engineer the Software to the extent needed to debug such modifications.

7. Donations

Donations (for example through Buy Me a Coffee) are voluntary gifts to support development; the amount is entirely up to you and may be zero. They do not purchase a licence, functions, support, updates or any warranty, and they create no obligation for us. They are processed by the donation service under its own terms; refunds follow those terms and the law.

8. Data and privacy

The Software works offline. It goes online only:

  1. to check for updates, when you ask it to or have switched the check on – only the version number is requested;
  2. to send a support report, when you press the button to send it.

Support reports and the GDPR. For reports the controller of personal data is the licensor named at the top of this Agreement, contact [email protected].

  • What a report contains: your note, the application log of that session, the recording of the diagnostic bus traffic, information about the USB adapter, its driver and the ports, the app version and its settings. It contains personal data only if you type it into the note or it is part of those logs (for example your Windows user name in a file path).
  • Purpose and legal basis: only to diagnose and fix the problem you report and to improve the Software (Art. 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR – handling your request and our legitimate interest in working software). Reports are never sold, never used for marketing and never shared with third parties, except the services that carry and store them for us: Google (the upload service and storage) and Proton (the support mailbox).
  • Retention: at most 12 months from receipt, then deleted; earlier on your request.
  • Your rights: access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and data portability, and a complaint to a data protection authority (in Poland: the President of the Personal Data Protection Office, UODO). Write to [email protected].

9. Updates and availability

We may publish updates, change or remove functions, or stop developing or offering the Software at any time. We are not obliged to provide updates, support or continued availability of any version.

10. No warranty

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Software is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Software is error-free, that it works with every vehicle, cable or computer, or that its results are correct.

11. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any damage arising from the use of or inability to use the Software, the cable description or information obtained through them – including damage to vehicles, their modules or other property, personal injury, loss of data, profit or business, and indirect or consequential damage. Nothing in this Agreement excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law, in particular liability for damage caused intentionally. If you use the Software as a consumer, the mandatory rights you have under the law of your country of residence remain unaffected.

12. Termination

This licence ends automatically if you breach this Agreement. You may end it at any time by uninstalling the Software. When it ends you must stop using the Software and delete your copies. Sections 4, 5, 10, 11 and 14 survive termination.

13. Changes to this Agreement

We may publish a new version of this Agreement with a new version of the Software. The version delivered with a copy of the Software governs that copy; by installing an update you accept the Agreement delivered with it. Copies of versions up to 0.9.8 that were obtained under the MIT licence remain governed by that licence; this Agreement governs version 0.9.9 and later.

14. Governing law and jurisdiction

This Agreement is governed by the law of the Republic of Poland, excluding its conflict-of-law rules and the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. Disputes are decided by the courts competent for our registered seat, unless mandatory law gives a consumer the right to sue or be sued in their own country.

15. Final provisions

If a provision of this Agreement is invalid or unenforceable, the rest remains in force and the invalid provision is replaced by a valid one that comes closest to its purpose. This Agreement is the entire agreement between you and us about the Software. The English version is binding; translations are provided for convenience.
